Our Middle & High School Art Program is designed to foster creativity and build essential skills through a sequential and cyclical curriculum. This ongoing class seamlessly extends our Middle & High School Art Program, continuing from summer into the school year and cycling back each season. By progressively exploring the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design, students not only learn art techniques but also develop a deep appreciation for art history. Here's what our young artists will explore:

Foundational Concepts:
Dive into the Elements of Art and Principles of Design to create visually compelling pieces.

Drawing Skills:
From observational and perspective drawing to life and figure sketches, students refine their ability to represent the world around them. Students will explore a diverse range of dry media, including graphite, oil pastels, chalk pastels, charcoal, and ink.

Composition and Color:
Learn the intricate concepts of 2D composition and color theory to enhance artistic expression.

Painting Techniques:
Experiment with various media such as acrylics, watercolors, gouache, learning manipulation techniques that bring ideas to life.

Art History:
Travel through time exploring influential artists, both historical and contemporary, to understand their impact on the art world and society.

Authentic Assessment:
Engage in assessments that reflect real-world art critique, helping students evaluate and elevate their art.

Personal Expression:
Encourage self-expressive processes that allow students to communicate personal meaning and narratives through their artworks.

Class Requirements
Minimum age requirement for this class: Students must be enrolled in at least 6th grade for the 2025/26 school year to participate in this class.
